  • Access to purchased issues revoked with the overhaul to the app.

Because NG has switched over to an unlimited type subscription like Netflix I no longer have access to issues I purchased in the past. I’ve tried using ‘restore purchases’ but I just get the message that I don’t currently have a subscription, which is true, but I paid for those previous issues already. This is the nightmare digital future we all thought would be great but instead access to the digital content we paid for can be revoked on a whim. This is all probably technically legal because it was probably stated somewhere in the EULA. That doesn’t make it right, however.
  • Easy to use

Nice App, easy to use and find content
  • The update took away what I liked most!

Update: My subscription is up for renewal in December 2019. Unless the ability to download and read the entire magazine is restored to the app, I won’t be renewing. It is unfortunate, as I have been a subscriber for over 30 years. I don’t know what other dissatisfied readers are going to do, but I suspect many will follow suit. So sad! Original post: How unfortunate that the makers of this app don’t seem to be readers of the magazine. I loved the idea that I could download the magazine and read it no matter where I was. I travel a lot and don’t always have internet access so the archive function of the web site is not always practical. It seems to me that if they want to be environmentally friendly, restore the earlier app and stop sending me the magazine, I’ll read it online/downloaded only! Such a shame to go from a good app to a crappy app.
  • Continued dismissal of users concerns with 3.1.10

3.0.11 October release: NG continues to ignore what the subscribers want. I continue to refrain from renewing my subscription. Bye bye NG, you used to be a good magazine. So, with this release (9/4/2019) we get a fix for “lengthy wait times” and “sometime crashes”. No mention of what most reviewers here want addressed. I called customer support a week ago and requested to talk to someone from the app development team. I was told I would hear back. I’ve heard crickets. My subscription is now officially lapsed.. What a shame. P.s. I’ve just read a number of other reviews with “developer responses “. Who hired mr. response man. What a flippin’ tool! —————— A comment from the developer (by email 8/13/2019): “Thank you for contacting us here with your feedback. Please be advised that we have no way to delete reviews on our end and we apologize for the inconvenience. We are sorry to see you go, but your concerns regarding being able to download issues and our layout have been present to our product team. " Right! My previous version-stamped incremental reviews are gone. Someone deleted them! And I’ll accept the “apology” when functionality returns. Until then it’s an empty platitude. Sorry NGM, there is no credibility here anymore. Your loyal customers don’t like being lied to. It’s been too long and too many dismissals of your users complaints to believe you are honestly restoring any functionality. ———————————- So, my running tally of the latest updates, and my continuing criticism of this now useless, but formerly excellent app has been removed? Apparently the app developers, and NGM suits don’t like to be told they screwed up... but then, I understand this is now a Murdoch owned publication, so they probably relish the angst they have provoked. But yet I see new “developer responses” from other unhappy reviewers, so what gives? I’m now officially letting my subscription of some 30 years, due imminently, lapse. What a shame. Bring back off line viewing and the magazine format, and I may reconsider. Otherwise, the respect you give to the opinions of your long time subscribers, is the respect you have returned.

We have the iPad edition which got me interested in downloading this app! After reading the reviews, I think I’m going to pass for now.
  • Unable to download issues

This is a step backward. Not being able to download old issues. I would gladly pay for the option. Somebody really screwed up. This was the reason I signed up again-to read and review the issues offline while flying You seriously need to terminate your app. developer.
  • NatGeo ruined one of the best magazine apps!!!

Bring back the full magazines with enhanced content
  • So long

    By klumphr
Terrible UI. Loved the previous magazine format. This new format is nothing more than a webpage. Clearly the development team did not solicit or listen to focus group feedback. Cancelled subscription and deleted app.
  • Downgrade!

So disappointed! No longer able to download digital content to read offline - I looked forward to it during my flights/travel.
